Visiting With Grandpa
When I was a little girl, the best sound I could ever hope to hear was the of our car tires hitting the loose gravel of my grandparent's driveway! That brief, crunching sound is what made it all real! It was the first sound right before mom would say, We're here!" It was a "Well hello, hello!" and a "Come in, come in!" It meant cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, great-grandparents, and getting up to all sorts of fun! Time to open the car doors and smell the honey from Grandpa's beehives and the smoke from the chimney. Step out of the car and onto broken walnut shells that had fallen from the two big trees and all over the walkway. Then, finally, open the old-fashioned screen door into a magical and familiar world fondly known as Grandma and Grandpa's House.
